Naugas

Recently I have seen several blogs with homemade owls on them. I was looking at one today and had a flashback! Back when there were four Fultz kids still at home. Back to the late 60s when the indestructible fabric "Naugahyde" became popular. This was a fake leather material with a marketing campaign that asserted humorously that Naugahyde was obtained from the skin of an animal called a "Nauga."

Somewhere along the way, toy Naugas were manufactured and sold.

And somewhere along the way, we four Fultz kids became owners of these lovely Naugas! Or "Naugies" as they were affectionately known at our house. I think mine was blue, it seems that Rick's was green, but I'm not sure about Kim's or Rod's...

They weren't the "plush" toy of today, but if swung by one arm correctly they were an excellent weapon. I have no idea what happened to any of them. I wish I had mine, just to see it again!

Did any of you ever have a Nauga?
