We Talk About Everything

I have a 2016 calendar from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library hanging by my computer.  When I turned the page to August yesterday morning there was a picture of Ronald and Nancy Reagan with this quote:

"How do you explain it?  We're happy... We talk about everything."

That is such a succinct description of a happy marriage.  We talk about everything.  Les and I are not in the same state right now.  He called me from the car last night and we talked for an hour - about everything.  There should be red flags when your spouse won't talk to you about their day or their dreams. 

And what about God?  Do you talk to Him about everything?  In Genesis chapter 3, after Adam and Eve sinned their eyes were opened and they hid themselves from the voice of God.  When God came to the garden to talk, they were afraid.  Being afraid to talk to God should be a huge red flag.

Prayer is talking to our Savior, and if we're quiet long enough we can hear Him talk to us... about everything.

I won't be posting a Woman of the Week this week, we are on our way to Florida for Thanksgiving and I plan to just enjoy myself.  I'm not even taking my laptop!

We had a visitor last week - Les' cousin Shannon had business in California and spent a few nights with us before flying home.  Friday afternoon we made a quick visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.  We didn't get there until about 3:00 and it closed at 5:00, so we moved quickly through the exhibits.

There is a special exhibit right now - "The Wall the Heals" is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.  This is a traveling exhibit that is only on display for a few days and we were fortunate to see it.

On my way out of the library, I  walked through the gift shop.  I picked up a 2016 calendar with this picture of the cover:

When the library opened in November 1991, I was working down the street at Bugle Boy.  Security was high with our current president and these four former presidents in town.  It's one of my favorite pictures!

I don't understand all that is going on in our world.  Sadly, the Bible tells us that man is not good, we live in a fallen state.  But "what is right" is God's ways and those ways will always eventually triumph!

Christmas 2012

We had a very enjoyable Christmas. Les' parents flew in on Christmas Eve. We feasted and relaxed all day on Christmas! I made French Toast casserole for breakfast and turkey with all the trimmings for dinner. I was too busy visiting, cooking and eating to take a single picture on Christmas day!

On Wednesday we visited the Ronald Reagan Presidental Library here in Simi Valley.  It has been over four years since Les and I had visited, so there were a lot of changes.  It's an emotional journey walking the halls of the library, reading the many quotes by President Reagan and thinking about the state of our country today.

The Oval Office

One of my favorites - the Bible that belonged to President Reagan's mother, Nelle.  The pages are faded, but you can see hand written notes.  I would love to turn each page!  This Bible was used when he was sworn in as President of the United States.

This quote reminded me of Kelley Highway and her many "Visiting" posts.  You cannot read them without shedding a few tears.

One exhibit that was completely new to us was the room dedicated to the Cold War, communism, and Reagan's meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev, including his famous words, "Tear down this wall."

We spent Thursday at the J. Paul Getty Museum.  Les and I had never been there - it's quite spectacular!  I didn't take pictures inside due to restrictions.  It sits high on a hill, you can see downtown Los Angeles looking one way and the Pacific Ocean looking the other way!

There is a special exhibit called "Florence at the Dawn of the Renaissance."  There were paintings from the early 1300s. The pieces were mostly paintings of the birth, life and crucifixion of Christ.  Of course there was heavy emphasis on Mary, the mother of Jesus as well since the Catholic church was "the" church of that time.

I missed blogging, but I sure enjoyed living this week!
