I read an interesting quote in my devotional last night. There was a story about a man who spent many years in prison. No one thought he would ever amount to anything. Upon his release he made a great mark on the world, becoming very successful. When someone asked him about it, he replied:
"Unlike the other prisoners, I never decorated my cell."What a mental picture that drew! I've never been in prison, so I've never thought about prisoners decorating their cells. Sounds like they plan to stay a while, doesn't it?
I thought of how Rod handled a lifetime of illness. Nothing ever kept him down! He was determined that hemophilia was not going to keep him from life. Everyone who knew him saw him in pain more than once, but they also saw him singing, worshiping, participating in dramas, working in bus ministry, playing volleyball and softball. He did not decorate the prison of his diseased body.
Many people allow difficult circumstances to become homelike to them. They grow accustomed to their misery, wrapping themselves in it, until they've decorated their cell. It becomes all they know, when God is waiting to open the door and set them free.
Jesus said in John 10:10 "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
You may be in a difficult situation today, but don't let it become home! Endure and keep believing that God is going to deliver you!
