I ran the Ojai to Ocean Marathon in June 2012. I created a separate blog to track the entire experience and it became my running blog. Check it out at McMarathon Moments.
From time to time I get questions about running. How I got started, how far, how long, etc. I wrote a "series" in 2008 that answers most of those questions. You can read all about it here:
How I Began
Getting Back on Track
Half Marathons and Beyond
Lessons Learned
I've heard some funny things while out running, but this is one of my favorites:
Two male cyclists, riding towards me.
Cyclist #1: See that lady, she always runs in a dress.Yes, I run in a dress. No, I am not ashamed of who I am. And I could probably outrun either of those guys!!
Cyclist #2: Yeah, I know.
If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.

Sister McElhaney,
I'm so thrilled that I stumbled across your blog. I've been wanting to get into running for quite some time now and although I get 'started' I often find it hard to maintain. I'm afraid it falls victim to my lazy flesh and unrealistic expectations. Until reading your blog I had yet to come in contact with an avid female Apostolic runner..(except for in church)..:) Reading these posts about running have inspired me like nothing else has yet. I'm 24, happily single, and I know that I would thoroughly enjoy it if I just stuck with it. Thanks so much for writing..hopefully someday(soon) I'll be encouraging others to run as you have me.
Tiffany,
Thanks for writing! I'm always glad to hear I've inspired someone. If you've read all those posts, you know I fell off the wagon for a while, but starting slow and building up works!
There is a young married lady in our church (I think she's about 25) who just ran her first marathon - in a skirt, of course.
Please write again and tell me how it's going.
