30 Days of Thanks, Day 21: Regret

Five years ago I wrote a post called "True Love Waits."    Here is part of what I wrote:
Les and I dated for fifteen months before we got engaged.  We were engaged for six months.  That's a total of twenty one months before we got married.  I think we'd been dating about two months when people started asking when we were going to get engaged.  One lady said, "I knew my husband for one week when we got engaged!"  Sadly, that marriage didn't survive.  While I was getting these types of questions on a regular basis, a wise person told me, "No one ever regrets waiting."  Truly, there was no rush for us.  Yes, we were "older" in the eyes of many - 25 when we met and 27 when we got married.  But here we are after nearly 24 years of marriage and I don't regret a thing.
I have a few regrets in my life, I'm thankful none of them are major.  Mostly I regret times when I've said something unkind.  The one benefit of regret - it can push us to change.  Regretting that cruel comeback will cause us to hold our tongue.  Regretting time spent with a toxic person leads us to avoid doing so in the future.

I prefer to live my life with few regrets, it's definitely the easier route.  But for those times that I do regret, I'm thankful that I can change and do better.
