Casa de Fruta - A Stroll Down Memory Lane

As far back as I can remember, Casa de Fruta was "the" stop on highway 152 between Fresno and Monterey. It may have been the only stop at one time! The land was purchased in 1908 by the Bisceglia family and is now run by the grandchildren of Clara Bisceglia Zanger.

A cherry stand was opened in 1943 by Clara's three sons.

In 1967, a 24-hour restaurant was opened - Les and I ate lunch there on Friday. This was Les' first time to stop at Casa de Fruta! He has lived in California for 23 years and has never stopped at this landmark!!

Much has changed, including a "Casa de Fruta" highway exit. But you can still buy some amazing produce!

Now that is a butternut squash!!

In 1968 my favorite part was added - the White deer/Buffalo area! I've told Les about the buffalo many times. He would just nod and smile, humoring me with my "memories." While we were there on Friday, I overheard a woman say, "there use to be a buffalo here." I wasn't the only one to remember!! The buffalo and deer are gone, but it's still a wonderful place to stop...

Ride the train...

Or the carousel...

But beware, they're very serious about shoplifters!!

This peacock walked right in front of traffic and never flinched! It also didn't get hit!

And this picture is for Bethany Wakefield! I thought of you when I saw these yummy apples!
