Living Under the Influence

What a great Sunday we had! I took advantage of the time change and ran 13.3 miles to start my day. We are still experiencing summer - it was 63 when I got up, with a high of 95 yesterday! At about mile 4 of my run I saw something strange scuttling across the road in front of me. As I got closer I realized it was a skunk! YIKES!!! I slowed down and gave it plenty of room... Then it was on to church!


Les is teaching our adult Sunday school class this month and he did a great job. The title of his lesson was "The Glorious Church" that is talked about in Ephesians chapter 5. One description of the Glorious Church is "without wrinkle." The definition of wrinkle in this verse is "without seam." Meaning, the church that is glorious does not have seams, such as racial divisions, that pull it apart.


After a great Sunday school lesson, Pastor White also preached out of Ephesians chapter 5! His key verse was verse 18 "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." Pastor White pointed out that the definition of filled in this verse is nothing like we usually think, such as a glass being filled. This verse actually means to be under the influence of the Spirit. Just as you can get a ticket for driving under the influence, living under the influence of the Spirit will change your life.

Sunday night's service was also great! Bro. Flores preached about "Age Doesn't Matter." Each of us are able to work for God, no matter our age. His text was from Jeremiah chapter 1 when Jeremiah says, "Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child." He gave the examples of Samuel, a young child, and Anna, a woman of 84. Both were found in the temple, working for the Lord.

I woke up this morning refreshed and wanting more than ever to live under the influence of the Spirit!
