Our original itinerary had two parts on day 4 ~ Glacier cruising in the Endicott Arm in the morning and Juneau in the afternoon and evening. Our alarm was set for 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27th. We were suppose to enter the Endicott Arm around 5:00 and spend about 3 hours there. I left our drapes partially open so when the sun came up it would help us wake up naturally. FYI - this time of year there are 16-17 hours of daylight in Alaska with sunrise around 4:30 and first light before 4:00 a.m.
Unfortunately, we never saw the sun! This unfortunate event also meant that we could not go in to the Endicott Arm. The fog was so thick, we risked hitting ice. The captain only made it a little ways into the narrow fjord before making this difficult decision.
We were originally suppose to dock in Juneau around 12:30 p.m. Instead we arrived just after 8:00 a.m. Of course we didn't have any plans for that early, so it was time to wing it! The Juneau tour companies had obviously received word that we were coming in early and were ready for us when we arrived.
Since we didn't get to cruise near the glacier, we decided to take a bus to the Mendenhall Glacier. It was spectacular! Our cameras really didn't capture the beauty and size.

Again, our cameras really didn't come close to capturing the beauty! Another thing we didn't capture was the many, many bald eagles we saw along the way. After about an hour, we got back on a bus to head back to the port. We had a quick lunch on board then headed to part 2 of our Juneau adventure...
